Winnebago woman leads new Indian business group

Dee St. Cyr, a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, has been elected as president of the new American Indian National Chamber of Commerce.
St. Cyr helped organize the group last year. Its membership consists of Indian chambers of commerce in Oregon, California, New Mexico, Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado.
The AINCC plans to promote Indian businesses on a national level. "We've got a whole group of people out there -- a mass of Indian businesses -- that are capable and competitive, but have been disregarded for much too long. We, as a national chamber, are looking for national opportunities for them," St. Cyr told the Denver Business Journal.
A different national Indian chamber of commerce was formed in 2002 but is now defunct, according to the Journal.
