oh great now there's a test??? You guys know that I get all nervous when there is a test....Thankful for the blessing from the Creator in my life!!!!
Life should not be measured by the number of things that we aquire on our journey but by the number of lives that we touch along that road.
I am a bridge on the red path between my ancestors and the future. I am a bridge between my white heritage and my native heritage. A bridge joins two sides together and provides a way to move on..... A.K. O'Pry-Reynolds

Sorry about that - there's no test, I was just doing that because I had written a response post to you and hit send but it didn't go to the thread so I was wondering what happened to my post and so that's why I did "testing" to see if that worked and to figure out what happened to my other post as that was a first that has happened since I started posting on the forum. Sorry!
Thanks
Amy

Never tried one of those pregnancy test things. Do you think I would pass?

Silverhawk:
Let me draw a mainstream parallel.
If a person is white (and choses to follow their culture) they don't follow 'white culture'. They are french or german or irish etc etc. so they follow that specfic culture.
So for an NDN, if they are culture "X", that's their roots, their nationality. Being NDN is just the racial group. Now there are similarities, but thats about it.
Just a review....for whoever doesn't get it yet....
Being NDN, being your nation. That comes from the blood you were born of. The same blood shared by your parents, grandparents etc. Following the NDN culture or the white doesn't change who you are. A person is born NDN or not
OK I am dozing off...long day.
P.S. TKMJ....I do not think you will pass the test.

I am an East Coast native and my religion/ways are intact
To the post that said my east coast native heritage is questionable and broken :
I am an East Coast native (Lnu) and my language, religion, and old ways are still intact.
Up here in Quebec/Nova Scotia...that is not an issue...
...are you refering to the Carolinas/Virginia area ?
What east coast natives are "less right" and "less complete" than "western tribes" ?
Who are you talking about ?

Whatever--- Mi'kmaq is more indian than most tribes because we don't pretend to be indian... we don't TRY to be something... we don't make a BIG DEAL about being something..
we just are what we are and we live within it......
So many natives STRUGGLE with identity or make such a big deal and jump through so many hoops to show they are indian--- what, are you compensating for something ?
Just live in your situation and you are what you are...
All of this flashy show and rhetoric sounds like a teenage boy who is struggling to convince us that he is something that he obviously is not ('cause if he was, he'd just live it and stop showing it so much).
Like some 15 year old skateboarding white kid who hates the world because the whole world doesn't skateboard along side him--and doesn't listen to his "sage advice" about skateboarding either.... or the 15 year old white kid who "knows abotu being gangster" and listens to "only the hardest rap" ... etc.etc..
IT IS OLD AND TIRED--- If we are born indian, then we are indian--end of story. I could move to china and study at the Shaolin Temple and become a kung fu monk for 10 years.. and after that 10 years--guess what? I'm still Indian--yep, I was indian the whole time. BUT--BUT--- I DIDN'T "ACT" LIKE AN INDIAN --- yea, so what? I'm still Indian. I don't need to go through prescribed motions to convince myself of my history and heritage... I know it and it is instrinsic to this life of mine... no matter where I go or what I do--- always native. No need to "show it" or "earn it"...it is mine naturally and non-stop.
If you feel that you have to "earn it" or "prove it" by performing a series of prescribed actions and saying prearranged things... then you are a fool who doesn't understand what it means to be born something. When you are born native you ARE native--regardless. For example-- if a white person cannot become native by performing said lifestyle-- then how can an indian STOP being indian if they do not perform said lifestyle. Clearly, we have just shown that the lifestyle does not "give" or "prove" native-ness
End conclusion : Even a native who becomes a shaolin buddhist monk is still a native. Why ? 'cause he was born native, lives native (regardless of action), and dies native.
It is like a mother and child : Even the child goes off and does wild and crazy ****...and never makes his way home... Still... he is his mother's child. Nothing he can do will "undo" that bond... no matter how off the path he goes... he is still the son of his mother.
Mi'kmaw history and culture IS NOT Lakota history or culture--and as such-- IT SHOULD NOT LOOK LIKE IT.
For example : The Lakota FOUGHT the U.S.A. .. The Mi'kmaw were aligned to the U.S.A.... obviously, this is going to lead to very different outcomes.
Lakota adopted horses... Mi'kmaw made canoes--- again, this is obviously going to lead to two very different peoples...
Get it?
(and yes....obviously, the more refined the view gets, you have to replace "native" with the name of your specific confederacy, nation, tribe,band..etc.etc..)
The racism of indians to whites is trumped only by the racism of indians to other indians.
*and before you say anything-- yes, we are racist towards whites.. yes, we are. You know we are. Just own it. However, also own the fact that you are racist towards other indian peoples--- because you feel they need to be like you in order to be "real indians".Last edited by IlnuSoldier; 03-19-2009, 10:14 AM.

If the ONLY thing an Indian has to feel proud about is that they are an Indian? They are fools.
Because any swinging phallus can be born Indian.

Is this fake or real?
Hi everyone. I would like to ask a question.
First I am a decendent of native americans of the Delaware tribe. I have also been to several powwows and find them very interesting.
Last week, I was invited to and attended a Delaware tree awakening ceremony. This happened at sunrise on the first day of spring. I was told that this was something that Chief Tammany did every spring to help the people believe that it would be a good growing season.
What the people who attended did was all join hands around this hugh oak tree. Then the leader said some prayers and asked the tree to wake up. Then he started tapping the tree with a stick as he went around the tree. After that everyone started tapping different trees with a stick. I just stood there and watched thinking that something was wrong. First time jitters I guess. It was just weird and I didn't understand why the trees needed to be woke up. Later as we had a great breakfast and talked, I was told that this ceremony has been done for thousands of years and I need to go home and wake my own trees in my yard.
After I got home, I started searching on the internet for some insite on this tree awakening. The only thing I found was a small topic on some strange website about witches and Celtic beliefs.
Is this some of that new age stuff that an elder at a powwow I attended warned me about and not to believe? Is it a real thing that I should be doing? It seems really strange. Somehow, I can't see native americans hitting trees with sticks telling them to wake up!Last edited by Joeindian; 03-22-2009, 11:46 AM.

by Highwolf89Let me change this thread around after some confusion. What I have read on some long ago threads was the topic of CDIB cards that are sometimes asked at powwows. Now I wanted to know what is the purpose of carding when there are some ndn people out there that can not receive them.

Not being from The South (born and raised in Wisconsin) I am wondering if the feelings of alienation and discrimination that I am experiencing in school are common to all ndns in college or is a purely a Southern thing. I have learned that something...

by weightman34This is a question millions of people ask each year and it is time you get the answer you want and need. It isn’t because people are lazy, addicted to food or don’t exercise properly. There are many factors into why people fail at losing weight. The following are just a few reasons why many...

by momnotjonIt is with a heavy heart that I am telling you that the police department has been informed that protestors will be at the funeral for Hatak. The Patriot Guard will be there to shield the family from them but it is a sad thing that this is happening.
Hatak's funeral will be Monday morning...-
