Do white people consider their race important?

Do "white" people consider their race important.
This question really cannot be generalized. Who deems their race important is up to the individual. I personally do not see race important in the sense that one race is superior over another, just that race gives an idea of the general area one's ancestor's come from. Even then, this isn't always accurate.
Humans are humans, regardless of pigment in the skin. I cannot stress this enough, but it seems people these days are so politically correct, instead of trying to get rid of racism by acknowledging our physical differences and moving past them, we tend to favor one race and discriminate another.
To be honest, more and more I see other races attacking the "white" man. It's been many years since the majority of racist "white" folks have had their run. There's a new generation of kind "white: people, and they're receiving the backlash of past conflict. To often I read on forums or journals about how "whites" are evil, yet the authors claim to hate racism?
Racism is a two way street folks. To be quite honest, I don't think we should refer to anyone's skin color unless it's necessary for description (I.E. a drawing or police report). No one is a "pure race." Just my opinion, but I've never understood discriminating or feeling superior over such a silly thing and I find it idiotic.
There are good and bad people with different appearances who come from different places, but let's not use that generalize or to hurt others. It doesn't define who they are, just who you are. Like Morgan Freeman says, stop referring to people by the color of their skin, and acknowledge them as a fellow man.

I white with an Native Girl Friend. I really don't think about being white. In fact i feel more at home being around her tribal friends and family, and have much more fun with them! When it is all said and done we are God's children! The world would be a much nicer place if we could all just get along!

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?
There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !

I'll chime in...I'm white. Probably about as white as you can get (literally).
[What am I doing on this forum? I came on here to ask about visiting a powwow as an educational opportunity for my young children].
This is a really interesting discussion to me, because I live in one of the most multi-cultural cities in North America (Toronto). But I'm originally from small town America.
I think that, at least in places where there is more cultural diversity, race (as a distinctive at least) is becoming less and less important to people; not just to whites, but to everyone. Especially when it comes to marriages/family. In Toronto, it seems like I know just as many mixed raced families as I do one-raced families. This goes not just for white people, but for everyone. Because Toronto is 50-60% recent immigrants, I'm personally comfortable and happy being around people of any race; our church alone has people from over 20 different countries. So I guess what I am trying to say is that when I meet someone, I don't really think much about whether or not they will like me because I am white, and I don't think much about whether or not I will like someone based on whatever their race is. Hanging out with people of other races is pretty normal to me.
However, where I grew up, I found that people were very racist....I remember even my own mother one time using the n-word when a black lady cut her off on the freeway, and i found it to be quite shocking. I was never comfortable with it.
I don't know anyone who is overly proud (or at least makes it known) that they are overly proud for being white. I know, I'm not. I more or less see myself and my skin color as something I was born with and can't really help. I know a bit about my ancestry...some were Irish who immigrated in the 1800's when the potato famine hit Ireland, then others were Quakers who came over because they were being persecuted by the Church of England for their beliefs. But I guess I don't really do anything to "celebrate" that heritage or anything (I'm not a Quaker myself or anything).
not sure if that answers anyone's questions or not, but that's my experience.

Everybody in Canada is Laid-Back, Eh?
But, those "immigrants", just like you, have left behind homelands....and PROTOCOLS they were raised in
EXPECTATIONS by their peers, family, clan, or tribe...to walk the walk...not just talk the talk
Now up in Canada, they don't have the Home Culture to keep them in line, they can mix & match, and nobody will bother them. Just like young kids at a playground, before they learn how to hate each other over race, culture, religion, etc.sigpic

Without context, I don’t even know what the question means. If someone came up to me and flat-out asked “Is being White important to you?” I wouldn’t know what to say. If the person asking were also White, I would suspect that they were a neo-Nazi/KKK type. If they were a person of color, well, I’d just be majorly confused.
Out of curiosity, I did just that, and asked a few friends that question. The initial responses were all about the same: WTF are you talking about? I would like to know the actual questions used in the survey. Interesting results, but I’m not sure I agree with the researchers’ conclusions.
Definitions can certainly vary, but the “privilege” part of “White privilege” is the privilege of not having to wonder if our race/skin color is going to be a factor in dealing with other people, and especially in dealing with people in authority.
So I guess the answer is both yes and no. It depends on the context of the question.sigpic

It was more like people identified with their nationality and not with their color but since most europeans used to be white, maybe still are, it was like this a kid sees a black person first time..., oh he looks interesting, different... The bottom line is identifying with ones culture and history, people from other countries come and well, represent a different culture. I have never met another white person who was proud to be white, as it was never important to talk about living amongst whites being white or pinkThe only time I ever heard of whites vs. other colors came from those who are not white and from radical nationalists. And these days the white people are in the minority on this planet anyway, concerning color.

by eap7I just got back from a 2 day "anti-racism" training I had to go to for work, which I thought had a lot of BS in it. Anyway I was in the "people of color caucus" with some black people, Hispanics, and myself. The two black leaders of the training told us that all minority people...
