I think haskell is about $150 or so. not sure if thats per semester or for the whole year.

I know Kickapoos get a scholarship based on grades and need.
Otoes get an even smaller scholarship. either way it in no way does it = FREE.

I hear that all time from some ignorant non-natives.

I joined the air national guard... and anyone can join the air national guard and get it free. Course its not really free when some people have paid for their college only to go to Iraq and then die.

so um... tell them when they ask that to stop being offensive racist pigs. haha
The only time its too late to start dancing is when you're dead.

The obvious answer is for Native students to attend class and/or not engage in problematic behavior, no?

Fees are exceedingly minimal (around $250 per semester), although the new President has investigated the idea of raising them to ~$1,000 per semester, in open review. She's getting some backlash, from students, faculty, and alumni, due to an endeavour to implement accountability. I have no issues with that.

For my BA and MPA, I think I'll owe Sallie Mae $100 monthly until the end of time. Oh well. There's no free lunch -- nor should there be -- and you get what you pay for. Pell Grants are free $$$. I wasn't put out by having to apply.

Competition is GOOD. Handouts are BAD. (That's one reason why attrition can be so ridiculously high.) College is not an entitlement, nor should it be. The answer is to make students pay back funds if they spend their dropout college careers learning what sort of Mad Dog 20/20 they prefer to consume.

That's more than fair and would eradicate many misconceptions.

Can someone educate me on this? There are different tribal governments and I'm not sure. I know Eastern Band of Cherokee (where my family comes from) is both state and fed recognized.

But, that question irritates me. My things is illegal immigrant come and get all the free benefits they want. No, I'm not bashing immigrants, I'm just saying that natives deserve something to.
NATIVE AMERICANS ARE THE ONLY TRUE MINORITY IN THIS COUNTRY!

Asians? The Chinese rank as the most populated people in the world. They shouldn't be recognized as a minority, just simply as human beings.

When I think of the word minority, I think people who on the verge of extinction, who's numbers dwindle below a million nay I say some of us dwindle below a hundred. So how can anyone other than someone of Native American descent be called a true minority in this country when they have people outside of this country that could easily fill in that gap. As for our people, we have no people outside this country except maybe in Canada or in Mexico for those of us that are lucky. And still it isn't enough.

If you put all the people in the world together in one country who will stand out as "THEE" minority?

By not being the person who stole it?

Following your logic, if your great-great-great-great grandfather committed murder, I have to come get you for the electric chair.

That doesn't really seem right, does it? The only possible way to add validity to an argument based upon your theory is to say that today, right now, fundamentalist actions are being undertaken that perpetuate such a system of disenfranchisement.

Of course, if we say that, who else becomes accountable for their actions? Indians. Sure, a trap is a trap and wrong is wrong: but the mouse must be held accountable for taking the cheese, because he knows what will occur. If you say there is an ongoing system, we -- certainly -- play our role.

So, we have to assume responsibility for our own success in life and get past perceptions of fairness based in historical loss. To wit:

"Competition is GOOD. Handouts are BAD. (That's one reason why [college] attrition can be so ridiculously high [especially at a place like Haskell].) College is not an entitlement, nor should it be. The answer is to make students pay back funds if they spend their dropout college careers learning what sort of Mad Dog 20/20 they prefer to consume.
