    mascot ignorance on facebook

anyone a member on face book?

this group popped up on my radar recently
"Native Americans Who Are Not Offended By The Term 'Indians'"
    Login | Facebook

    the description:
"The NCAA is getting ridiculous, threatening to disenfranchise schools that use the terms 'Indians' 'Braves' 'Fighting Sioux', etc. I don't know about anybody else, but the name really isn't 'hostile and offensive' to me. Not at all. I know Indiana University of PA is going nuts right now over the new mascot they haven't had in two years, since this started.

But 'Fighting Irish' is still cool?

Come on, oversensitive activists! There's something better out there to fight for! Try and save Darfur or something! Raise Money for AIDS! NCAA--how about a division for paraolympians, rather than spending money litigating on tiny Division II schools? Good grief!

now i attended Indiana university and i fought for years to educate ppl on how inappropriate it was to have an "Indian" mascot. Recently the school changed the mascot.
But that does not seem to be the end of it; unfortunately stupid seems to outlast enlightenment.
what concerns me is how misleading the title is.
Since PA is prone to twinkies, wannabees and 1%-ers, i don't feel the self-proclaimed "Native Americans" in this group really speak for Native Americans. If anyone is on facebook and wants to speak up, please do. or even feel free to email the group leader directly.

    Native American Heritage Month
    by Highwolf89
This month is just not big enough. I remember in high school during Black history month all we did was learn about the african americans and how they were treated and the whole month was geared toward there history. But in november there was none of that for us as Native People. In my US history...
