• An ancient "false medicine man" claim that has gone un-punished to this day !

According to some things I heard circulating around the rez......

There is a false medicine man preaching some bogus religion called "The Ghost Dance". It is a false religion and the guy who started it, Wovoka, is a false medicine man, so fair warning to everybody !

Check it out ... "Wovoka" (as he calls himself) is actually a farm-hand to a white guy on some ranch out west... but..

.. he claims that he can help you talk to your dead relatives and, get this, he got this "magic power" from a vision of ... guess who ? None other than JESUS CHRIST !!!

What a wack-job !

I feel sorry for all of this followers. He has managed to fool some important elders and people from many reservations, but not everybody. Just be warned about this false medicine man before you or one of your relatives gets hooked into his non-traditional "movement".

He sounds just as freaky and coniving as Jim Windigo! He gets tossed from area to area once they figure out what he really wants is young women for his lodge!!! Stealing their energy and once drained, in more ways than one he hooks up with the next!!!

Really? Did he write a book of his secret knowledge to sell? Does he run expensive workshops? Is he making a profit and living rich from this? If so, I say we out him!

Jim charges for answers, blessings and everything else! He does nothing for free and his favourite expression is "You got $100.00?"
Sick individual draining energy from all his victims.

I think he's talking about the old wovoka to make a point. That this man wasn't practicing any "traditional" religion but was rather following the instructions of a dream he recieved and that, had he lived in today's age, he'd be thrown out as a "fake" shaman.

this does bring up a very interesting point. I've often thought about the old religious figures and how thay'd be recieved today. Would Jesus have been locked up in an insane asylum? I think today's climate is alot more conservative on what they accept and look strangely upon people who recieve "visions" or recieve "divine instructions" that aren't following traditional avenues. The same with how pow-wow folks dress. In looking at old historic photos, it seems that adornment was a lot more personal and varied than it is today and that people who don't follow their accepted "tribal" style are labeled hobbyists or worse.

Assimilation again ......

My view is that
I disagree based on another forced teaching by a white Christian family.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
This whole story has nothing to do with a fake medicine man. I belive Jack Wilson a man who was raised by the whites and was assimilated to think a Christian way, A matter of Illiteracy on the part of Wilson very confused and thinking he was doing the right thing he was only reenacting what he saw his foster father doing. Praying going to church hearing how Jesus is the savior of all and that everyone would be forgiven for sins need I say more so he being so very misinformed and torn away from his true cultural beliefs was convinced he could make a change for many of the (sic) Indians

I believe the government should resind these medals of honor and the monuments that are up, pettitions are online to support this issue against these 20 soldiers who were involved in the Wounded Knee Massacre.

Just14 days after they arranged Sitting Bulls Death, The U.S. Army sought to relocate and disarm the Lakota people. WTH is right with that picture, again no weapons to fight back a terrorist people in our lands. All because they did a dance, that the whites were threatened by. So on frozen ground on the plains of Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Reservation, government troops opened fire on the unarmed Lakota people, Killing 290 helpless innocent woman, children, elders, men, in a matter of minutes. 20 medals of Honor were presented to surviving soldiers.

Link to show the names of the 20 soldiers who have Medals of Honor

What IS your point, Ilnu? Or are you just bashing other religions again to try for the most replies in a thread contest?

considering the history involved and / or linked to this religion I think this thread is in rather poor taste.

I think this thread is in PERFECT taste, is excellent satire, and shows the hypocrisy of those that are so prickly about how they analyze today's occurrences.

Reality? This guy was a radical and a heretic, at the time, that has achieved some level of validity over decades. (Just as, in his own day, Jesus of Nazareth was a nobody. His followers made him big, about a century later.)

Some people fear analysis: I don't know why.

Yeah, and so were the people brainwashing him into thinking that he could become another prophet to save his people just another set up job or excuse to
sanction the murdering of all the people over a song and dance..... yup who's the radical ones it was a payback created Indian haters... ...because Custer got defeated. So they found a weak
naive and gullible Indian and programed him into recreating something that was like the Jesus of Nazereth .... People can twist the truth but the Lakotas know the true story...
