  • 2010 Olympics where do you stand?

So canada is looking for nice good NDN's to dress up and let the world think that all is good in canada for us. They are confident that the issues on Akwasasne won't reach vancouver tv and they will be shipping out homeless people out of the city so they won't be seen. Many don't care as long as they get to be in the Olympics.

Some thought they wanted this, felt honoured to be a part of it until it hit closer to home like Elder Joe George. But when he showed up at the committee with his regalia, the vancouver committee told him he could not wear it cuz they had an NDN costume picked out. Joe George says he has never seen anything like it...the vancouver olympic committee told him to leave & not come back. Read more at buffalopost.net (you may need to put addy in manually cuz I'm on my phone)

The there is the Native 2010 resistence. Activly protesting and informing and keeping up on all the land and rights issues our people are facing because of the olympics. How people justify it for the olympics. Read more at no2010.com

    So where do you stand?

I don' t think there's a damned thing you can do about it and you should take what you can get ($$$) out of the deal.

In the long run, funds are power, and you have a much greater opportunity to impact whatever changes you actually desire, in the future, if this is managed effectively.

Standing in front of the tank/steamroller is only a good idea if there is a reasonable expectation that the unit will stop. The Olympics will move forward: so, DON'T DO IT.

    Just get what you can.

I am emotionally split on this one.... I want to say "Fight it tooth and nail"... but Zeke, you are right man... it is gonna happen regardless..

The best thing to do with to get as much $$$ as possible now and use it to build and enforce important infa-structures (within the native communities)... once these have a more solid foundation with actual resources, you could launch a "The Truth about 2010"... but wait for AFTER the Olympics...

because if the world did not care about China's human rights violations during their "moment in the spolight"... do you really think anyone will care about Canada mistreating NDNs ?

The answer is "NOT DURING" the Olympics..

This will have to be a P.R. war that takes places AFTER the show is over..

So, make $$$, build programs... KEEP GOOD EVIDENCE.. then, like a good undercover cop, make the arrest AFTER the crime is committed.

Note : NEVER EVER break the bank with revealing the truth. Do not risk the stability of the community and its resources to prove a point... allocate certain funds to it, and churn it until you run out of money--- then stop.

Truth is a interesting animal ---- if there is "cause and condition" (a.k.a. receptivity of the masses) to the truth... it will spread like wild fire with just a tiny little of info leaked out.. like a tiny spark igniting a forest.

If the masses are NOT interested... no amount of petitions, commercials, websites,etc.etc... will make a dent. Like trying to set a clean cold mountain lake on fire. Just won't happen.

Sadder yet, a lot of the local mom and pop busnesses have been bought out and chain stores are taking over, so not only are the local people being ousted from their homes but losing family stores to top it off! So to represent our country in pride on this, sorry no way I am against it when our own people have to suffer so that stores like Mcdee can take over and show the visitors how we thrive! NOT. Downtown Vancouver is changing radically to show just how much they support the first nations. Yet the sadest part is that the logos are all first nations based and they are the ones being ousted from the area??? Sick!
so to the olympics in 2010 ten thumbs down!
Listen to my heart, not just my mouth! The most powerfull thing we can do is,,,share,,, if we don't it dies with us.
