  • Indigenous Language inclusion Protest

    Hi,
Indigenous Languages need to be approved in higher institutions of learning. I have made it a goal to try and get the Cherokee Language approved at Duke University, as well as having the possibility of other indigenous students get their home languages Approved. This idea needs support. A letter has been drafter. We have a petition going and need more signatures. If this is an issue you can support, please do so.

It's imperative that indigenous languages have a place among top American universities like Duke. Honoring Native American culture by including their language among others is necessary for their equal place at the table. Duke sits close to Cherokee territory making it more a more meaningful place to be included in. Native American culture is still being suppressed, and it's up to us to do something about it!

Isha, have a look at what Ontario's Ministry of education did for language development both in elementary and post secondary education. Native Languages

Also have a look at what Lakehead University has done: http://library.lakeheadu.ca/?pg=506

Might save you some time if you can show the admin that other universities have developed a language plan. Good luck!
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. — Robert A. Heinlein

I can see the wheel turning but the Hamster appears to be dead.
