Longest Walk 5 - Declaring War On Drugs 2016

He's Back - at 79 years young, Dennis Banks of the American Indian Movement

is leading another march across the USA: LONGEST WALK 5 - American Indian

Movement Declaring War On Drugs. The LW5 walkers & runners will cover a

route from California to Washington, D.C. in about 5 months. Starting February

13, 2014 LW5 departed from La Jolla Shores Beach near San Diego on the Pacific

Coast. Actor Saginaw Grant, 81 years young, joined-in giving a speech, and

then walking a few miles despite recent surgery on his leg.

Dennis Banks and Harry Kindness walked this very route back in 2011 with

LONGEST WALK 3 - Reversing Diabetes. Dennis is now in great health, and has

managed his diabetes well after suffering a heart attack in 2010.

On this Opening Day of Longest Walk 5, the runners ran stretches of road, and

the walkers accounted for the other miles on the map to San Pasqual Reservation

northern San Diego County. The group will rest overnight at San Pasqual, then

visit Rincon, Pala, and overnight at Pechanga Reservation. Next they will march

to Soboba, and then Morongo where they will rest 2 days. Many of the runners

and walkers are veterans of A.I.M. events, having run, walked, or marched many

one question though.....are we declaring war on drugs in NDN country and with native families or declaring war on drugs in general for everyone?

anyways....agreed......the days of bein nice peaceful injuns is over or we gonna just disappear.....not insinuating wardancer suggested we not be peaceful injuns.....but the fact is no one gonna notice this walk......i saw this documentary once where some guy named forest gump ran around the country back n forth and some interviewer asked him if he was doing it for world peace....seemed like a big deal at the time but somehow it failed to make the history books

when we speak out and point the shotgun right where it hurts and go below the belt some of our most respected elders tell us "thats not indian way"

so that gives white people the green light to say "thats not indian way" when we hit em below the belt.......meanwhile they been stepping on our necks for 5 centuries (ok.....this is the part where zeke comes in and says we are stepping on our own necks lol)

im not sayin we should go all AIM on em (AIM actually had a good message, their personal character in many of the main players is in question as well as their tactics)......but we gotts unite and speak.....most of all we gotta find a way to agree with each other about something

idle no more did grab some attention.....not BIG attention outside of indian country though......not many local news outlets reported anything other than a flash mob......and when they did it was more about the flash mob than about the actual issue theresa spence was on hunger strike

not sure how things work out in canada though.....it seemed to have a bigger impact there than here.....and i know mothing about meso-americas and south america

thing is we gotta find something that stirs things up.......but yet not look like a buncha wagon burning prairie niggers looking to set something off with no compromise.......or screwing ourselves by looking like a buncha noble savages proudly accepting our tragedy as we continue taking the sodomy from the great white phallus of the american govt

peace walks and the like have proven over and over to just create a buzz around ndn country while the rest of the world dont care

it is now time to either replace our warbonnets with azzhats and meet the world head on.......or keep grabbing our ankles and silently beg for more because remember.......azzrape is azzrape whether we admit it or not......there are 2 ways people handle it......they either close their eyes and go somewhere else pretending its not happening.....or they can go down kicking and screaming and then pointing their finger and naming their rapist every chance they get

i choose the latter.......time to dust off our azzhats people

I just provided media support, and met up with people I knew from Longest Walk 3 in 2011. I got to speak with Dennis a couple times, but things are hectic with logistics planning, and people needing to get Dennis' approval on things, etc

Then Dennis asks me to make prints of my photos, so I run off to WalMart to make prints for him, and that was it, I had to drive back to San Diego for work.

Due to my job, it was frustrating not getting the video footage I wanted. So, I mashed up a montage video, it has over 2,000 views on Facebook so far...

Bottom Line: Let's see how this unfolds, people are getting organized on Facebook. There are some concerts, and media events planned ahead. The big concern is health & safety of runners and walkers over the 5 months.

I've seen different graphics: War on Drugs, AIM Declaring War on Drugs, War on Drugs & Domestic Violence, All Lives Matter

I think it's Reservations & Urban Indians...and in general All People.

Like I said, everybody was very busy planning & adjusting. Each time I visited, it was a 3 hour drive after my job, visit them, then 3 hour drive back into my job.

What I wanted was video of runners in action, but finding them was a challenge.

If I see a good event ahead I can fly to, I will try to go. Powwow season is heating up tho LOL

I get requests to photo weddings, etc but can't squeeze all of it in

When I retire next year...it will be a long working vacation after that!
