Ya know something. Even I forgot where I stand on the issue!!

        aye!

Naw, I dunno, to be REALLY honest. It's a double edged sword. In one instance, it could help us, in the other, it could cripple us and future generations in a big way.

I say if you do lower the blood quantum, you're having to dole out less to more people, and if you leave it as it is, you're shooting yourself in the foot, in that future generations of our tribe, the Navajos, which are under discussion here, not the Arapahoe's thank you very much, will more than likely be thinned out alot with few full bloods left, and you'll have only the few full bloods reaping the benefits of certain types of assistance, available only to full bloods. Then yer mixed bunch are left out with nothing or very little.

My stance is now to lower it to one eighth. It's safer in the long run, and our population stands to grow ALOT!!!! We're already at around 300,000 Navajos, why not make it 500,000? Or a cool million!! Our services and tribal budgetary allowances for programs and stuff will REALLY be thinned out then!!!!!!!!!

but, in the long run.......I think it's better for us. Who knows, maybe as a larger tribe, we can request for more monies.

I didn't call your family members "riff raff"... you did!!

I merely stated that i'd like to keep out those that have claims that are totaly absurd!! ....like 1/264th or something absurd like that.

the Navajo tribe already has some strict standards. if youre say 5/8 or 3/8 or whatever that much blood dont count towards your overall quantum... you end upbeing rounded to the lowest quarter which would make you 1/2 and 1/4. tribal census math is curious...

im in favor of the higher blood requirement. i read all your reasons and none are good enough to even consider
thanks dad for showing me the way, teaching me the language, and not leaving my mother...*L*

MR. RUMAKI......I most certainly did NOT refer to my family as riff raff....I replied to YOUR choice of words referring to those specifically 1/8 or less...and that includes my family members. With that cleared up; I agree with you as to the rest of your point.....beyond that begins to be a grey area. Jus had to correct you on that LOL :) Maybe u were being funny to begin with???? dunno :)

....this thread is about Navajos!! Not Arapaho's!!

...unless yer Navajo.....trynna pass yerself off as a Navajo!!

I don't know how I feel about this either. I'm only half and on our rez you have to be 1/2 Potawatomi from our tribe in order to be enrolled. If you are less, you have to be voted in to be adopted by the eligible voting members. They want to lower our quantum to 1/4 and I really don't agree with it because a lot of people are only coming back to the rez because of per cap and the houses we are building. But then again, if I don't stay on the rez and I have children, my children will not be enrolled members. It has its good points and its bad points. I just hope tribes realize the kind of situations they can get into with lowering the blood quantum and having to provide more and more services.

would'nt it kinda also broaden the gene pool though? If more of them come back even if it's because of this or that, there is more enrolled potowatami to marry potowatomi right?

I aint Dine' BUT my tribe recently went from 1/4 to 1/8 I trully do not like it..sure I got family members that are more white or whatever else than Comanche...its not my fault. Now that our blood quauntum is lower, we have blonde hair blue eyed people coming into our houseing authority demanding houses...while a lot of my elders are being left out...Got them people coming to our tribal headquarters taking advantage of all our tribal things.....

                      Ima stop there....

Yeah but when your related to everyone, it kind of defeats that purpose.

I just had a question for ya, I'm not starting nothing, no arguements, but do you think that 1/4 is nothing then? Why cut people out? For more money for the other people that have more blood? Why be geedy bout it, don't you want to provide services for all your people?
