    Monday, April 26, 2004

The most decorated and highest-ranking tribal member to serve in World War II will be honored on Tuesday.

Army Lt. Col. Leonard Lowry, a member of the Maidu Nation from the Susanville Rancheria of California, served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, where he earned five Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Service Cross and two Silver Stars. He suffered 22 entrance and exit wounds.

The new headquarters at the Sierra Army Depot in California will be dedicated to Lowry, who died at age 79 in 1999.
