            here is a report from a local tv station here in CT;

News Channel 8 was the first to warn parents about their children logging onto the popular web site myspace.com. Now the FBI is making sure all of its agents are aware of the dangers associated with these types of web sites.
            • by News Channel 8's Erin Cox
13-year-old Ashley has a picture profile on the popular myspace.com social web site.

"When I first went on I said I was 18," Ashley said.
            "Did your mother know?"
            "Noooo."

Her mother also didn't know how know just how much information about her daughter was on the web site until she saw our story about how Middletown police are now investigating a possible connection between the web site and the sexual assaults of a half dozen girls with posted profiles. Profiles like Ashley's.

"Your heart just stops," says Bonnie, Ashley's mother. "You get nervous. You are nervous for your kid."

"It has my name, my birthday, that I live in West Haven, Connecticut, and it had a picture," says Ashley.

Ashley has now privatized her profile and thinks she is safe. But there's other stuff.

"Like, you see a lot of nudity, anything you can imagine in a picture," says Ashley.

"She wants to be on myspace and thinks it's safe and monitored," says Bonnie. "I don't know if you can really do that."

Teens don't always use the computer at home. They often go the library where their parents can't see. In Groton they have computers just for teens and they've noticed that the filter is now blocking out myspace.com

"As soon as they click on a profile the filter stops them. That's a change," says Betty Anne Reiter from the Groton Public Library.

Mother and daughter make decisions about dinner together, but they're far apart on the safety of the site, so mom is pulling the plug.

"I think we can monitor it for people I don't know and even people I don't really know, and then we can block them or something," says Ashley.

"She won't be happy but at least we'll know she's safe," says Bonnie.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says his office is investigating the web site for possible violation of state law because it allows minors easy access to pornography and other inappropriate materials.

MySpace.com says it will work with Blumenthal to address his concerns. The site says it has several initiatives to keep users safe, including 24-hour monitoring of the site and reviewing all images.

I think MySpace.com is getting a bit of a raw deal on this. There are some things they could do to help protect the identities of people, but...!

These predators are going to go where ever the kids are. When malls were first built, they went to malls. When IM started, they all did IM. Now they are flocking to MySpace.com.

And they go to the next big thing kids go to.

In all cases, parents need to be more involved. Don't let your 12 year old have a computer in thier room behind a closed door!!!

Ok, I'm getting off the soap box now!

                  Randomly - Who Cares?
                  by Spiritflight
Life is full of mysteries - who cares? I may talk BS - maybe not. Who cares? I do and I don't. Where is Tanezanie Tekkno? Sorry for getting the name wrong but you know who I mean? Is he doing well, still alive? To be blindfolded is the only racism or simply speaking level of awareness.
