  • Pyramid Lake Tribe mourns officer’s death

    Reno, Nevada (AP)

    The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe is mourning the loss of Denise Phoenix, a Bureau of Indian Affairs criminal investigator and veteran officer.

    Family members say the Sparks High graduate died while awaiting a double lung transplant. They say Phoenix’s lungs that were damaged four months ago while investigating a child abuse case in a home that had hazardous fumes from methamphetamine production.
