  • Investigation reveals improper sales

    Tulsa, Oklahoma (AP)

Some tribal smoke shops in the Tulsa area still are selling cigarettes with tax stamps reserved for border areas of the state, an investigation revealed.

During June, the Tulsa World purchased cigarettes at six smoke shops licensed by the Cherokee Nation and five smoke shops licensed by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The purchases revealed that almost all of the Cherokee stores sold cigarettes with the correct tax stamps, while most of the Creek Nation stores sold cigarettes with improper tax stamps.
