  • Standing Rock surge extended another month

    Pierre, South Dakota (AP)

A month has been added to a program that increases the number of law enforcement officers on the Standing Rock Reservation.

The number of officers on the reservation, which straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border, was increased in June from nine to 29 in response to high crime rates. Officials say the increase has netted 1,000 arrests so far.
