The Omaha Tribe will receive $676,000 from the Indian Health Service to alleviate a shortfall that jeopardized its medical programs.
The funding was announced Sept. 19 by U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, who had criticized the federal agency earlier this year. The Nebraska Democrat had said the Indian Health Service was squandering federal dollars and leaving tribes to pick up the pieces.
