A group of American Indian veterans is challenging the state’s estimate of tax refunds owed to them for state personal income taxes withheld from their paychecks while they were on active duty between 1977 and 2004.
The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department released a report Oct. 1 revealing it owes as much as $2 million in tax refunds to about 7,000 American Indian veterans.
