  • Canadian father pleads guilty in freezing deaths

    Rose Valley, Saskatchewan (AP) 11-08

A man who left his two daughters to die in a frozen field pleaded guilty Nov. 3 to criminal negligence, weeping as he held his bandaged, frostbitten hands to his face.

As the wind chill hovered at 58 degrees below zero, Christopher Pauchay lost his 1-year-old and 3-year-old daughters last Jan. 29 while walking to a neighbor’s house. Pauchay’s family said he was drunk at the time. The girls were wearing only diapers and T-shirts.

This is very tragic. I would hope that they would place him in long-term, intensive alcohol treatment rather than prison. Prison usually does not have the type of treatment individuals need.
