A Hopi judge has dismissed two criminal charges against tribal Chairman Ben Nuvamsa, but the chairman is still fighting three other charges that allege he damaged public property.
According to a news release from Nuvamsa’s office, tribal Judge Leslie Delfred dismissed the charges during late November. Tribal prosecutor Jeffrey Porturica filed the charges during November, contending Nuvamsa violated a tribal resolution and failed to obey a lawful court order. Nuvamsa says Porturica later asked that they be dropped.
