The Cayuga Indian Nation has closed its two upstate New York convenience stores while it appeals a judge’s ruling that the tribe cannot sell tax-free cigarettes.
“The Cayuga Nation has always abided by the law, and the law seems to be in flux right now,” Dan French, the tribe’s lawyer, said Dec. 11. “Until there is more clarity we will temporarily suspend business.”
