Tribal officials say former Three Affiliated Tribes Chairman Russell Mason Sr., has passed away in a Parshall nursing home. He was 72.
Mason was the tribal chairman from 1994 to 1998, after a career with the Indian Health Service. He is credited with developing programs to fight alcohol and drug abuse and with creating a no-smoking policy in tribal buildings. He also was known as a biker and marathon runner.
