Pierre, South Dakota (AP)
A legislative committee has essentially killed a bill to study the idea of creating a cabinet-level Department of Native Affairs within state government.
The House State Affairs Committee voted 8-4 on Feb. 18 to defer HB1286 to the 41st legislative day. There are 40 days in the legislative session, so the committee’s action means it’s unlikely there will be further debate on the bill.
