A federal judge has invalidated a permit for construction of a King William County reservoir that environmental groups and the Mattaponi tribe have been fighting for years.
U.S. District Judge Henry H. Kennedy Jr. in Washington, D.C., ruled March 26 that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers acted arbitrarily and capriciously when it deemed the reservoir the “least damaging” alternative for meeting the long-range water needs of Virginia’s Peninsula region.
