Navajo lawmakers have passed a resolution that puts the speaker of the Tribal Council at the forefront of talks between the tribe and the state of New Mexico, but the Navajo president says the resolution is misguided.
A new law in New Mexico is meant to foster collaboration between state agencies and tribal governments. It requires the agencies to appoint a tribal liaison and keep an updated contact list of the chief executives at 22 tribes or pueblos in New Mexico.
