  • Evon Peter: Global warming impacts on G'wtichin People

    by Nick Vander Puy
    Reserve, Wisconsin (LCOTV)

Evon Peter grew up in a G'witchin village a hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle. He lived in a one room cabin, carried water from the river with a yoke, and killed caribou to feed his family.

Now, the tundra is melting and the Porcupine caribou herd in G'witchin territory is being devastated by global warming. More than thirty thousand caribou died a few years ago from unprecedented flooding during the caribou migration.
