A North Carolina congressman said a bill to grant federal recognition to the Lumbee tribe is heading toward a vote in the full House.
Democratic Rep. Mike McIntyre said the recognition bill he sponsored could be voted on within 30 days, The Fayetteville Observer reported April 24. Recognition would provide the tribe with millions of dollars for housing, education, health care and economic development.
