Superior, Wisconsin (AP)
A Chippewa burial site on a steep river bank in Superior has no one charged with maintaining it, and years of erosion is causing bones to poke through the clay surfaces and tumble into the Nemadji River.
“If it washes into the river, fine with me; it’s part of the earth,” said Paul DeMain, the editor of the Hayward-based News from Indian County . “It’s the idea that this place has deteriorated – and nobody is watching it.”
