Protesters took part in the 10th anniversary of an annual march from the Pine Ridge Reservation to the nearby town of Whiteclay, Neb., which is the home of several outlets that sell beer to residents of the dry reservation.
Organizers said the march during mid-June was intended to keep alive the memory of Wilson “Wally” Black Elk Jr. and Ron Hard Heart, who were found beaten to death 10 years ago this month just north of Whiteclay on the reservation.
