The Navajo Election Administration is challenging a ruling that allows two ballot initiatives to go before voters within six months.
In an appeal filed July 6 with the Navajo Supreme Court, the administration contends a tribal hearing officer ignored a requirement under election law that initiatives not go forward without 16,530 valid signatures. The number represents 15 percent of all registered Navajo voters.
