A Mass to honor the first proposed American Indian saint and commemorate her message of devotion and charity was celebrated on July 9.
The 15th annual Mass honors the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, a woman who lived in the 17th Century and is recognized by the Catholic Church as the patroness of ecology and the environment. Local groups, called Kateri Circles, routinely pray for her canonization and organize the event.
