the City of Glendale has been fightin to keep a Resort Casino from moving in:

The Tohono O'odham Nation is moving west.

It's official: The Tohono O'odham Nation is moving West.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is preparing to place 134 acres of land near 91st and Northern avenues
into trust for the tribe. The office sent letters out to Glendale and other communities on Friday informing them of the decision.
That means that the swath of land -- near Westgate City Center, the University of Phoenix Stadium, Jobing.com Arena and the new spring-training facility for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox -- will become part of the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation.

That's cool. Next year, our family is going down to check out spring training games. I just wish the Redsox came to PHX instead of Florida....

Let them cry about this again!

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies plan to move spring training from Tucson to a new baseball stadium on the Salt River Reservation in 2011 in a deal being touted as a local job generator and a tourism boon for the Valley tribal community.

Under the agreement announced Thursday by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, the tribe will fund, build and operate an 11,000-seat stadium and 12 practice facilities on 140 acres northwest of Loop 101 and Indian Bend Road, just east of Scottsdale

Arizona Diamondbacks baseball is coming to the Northeast Valley in 18 months as the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community has set an aggressive schedule for building a spring-training stadium and 12 practice fields by February 2011.
Tribal leaders announced this week their agreement with the Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies to erect an 11,000-seat stadium and lay out practice facilities northwest of Indian Bend Road and Loop 101 on the Salt River side of Pima Road.
"Our ancestors built ball courts on this land and throughout the Valley," said Diane Enos, Salt River president. "Now we are excited about bringing baseball home to our community."
