Take the interstate to Flagstaff, head east toward Albuquerque and drive until the snow disappears. A few miles east of Winslow, a road that once led to the ruins of an ancient Hopi civilization now dead-ends at a locked gate.
“Due to budget reductions,” a sign reads, “park closed.”
