A San Carlos man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Phoenix to six years in federal prison for causing an accident that killed three women in May 2008.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 21-year-old Bernie Deshane Baca was driving drunk and speeding when he lost control of his car and slammed into another car head-on in Whiteriver on the Fort Apache Reservation in eastern Arizona.

Two victims died at the scene and the third died a month after the accident.

Prosecutors said Baca pleaded guilty Jan. 20 to three counts of involuntary manslaughter.
