A former Crow Creek Sioux official has been sentenced to a year and eight months in prison and fined $2,000 for retaliating against a witness.
Thirty-four-year-old Thomas Thompson of Fort Thompson was one of four men indicted in 2008 in a construction contract bribery case on the South Dakota reservation.
Authorities say the case occurred while Thompson was tribal secretary. They say he and other tribal council members voted to remove the tribal chairman, who was helping investigators in the corruption investigation.
Thompson’s co-defendants all pleaded guilty to bribery charges.
