A former Fort Peck tribal employee has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a nearly decade-long scheme to embezzle more than $1 million from the tribe’s credit department.
The Great Falls Tribune reports Edward O. Smith pleaded guilty to theft from an Indian tribal organization last week. U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Strong scheduled sentencing for Dec. 20.
Smith’s wife is one of six credit department employees charged with taking the money, in part by making fraudulent loans.
