  • Halibut

I was fortunate enough to come into the possession of a nice halibut fillet. Adn pretty big too.

Half of it I seasoned with liberal sprinklings of:

    black pepper
    cayenne
    garlic powder
    onion powder
ground sea salt ($1 at the Dollar Store)

Broiled in the oven for 10 minutes. DEELISH!!

The other half I cut int 1 inch chunks and boiled in seasoned water - 1 t salt, 1 t sugar and 1 teaspoon Old Cape Cod seasoning (Dollar Store "Old Bay Seasoning").

Dipped in melted butter, I can see why they call this Poor Man's Lobster - not that Halibut is cheap.

Now I want to go out and catch me a 100 pounder!

Old Bay is the bomb! That's what they use at the crab shacks on the Chesapeake Bay.

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

I've never had "real" Old Bay, but I'm very impressed with my Old Cape Cod. Gotta keep a look out at the dollar stores for another bottle.

Old Bay is a powder. A dozen crabs steamed in Old Bay and a couple of beers made for a great lunch! LOL

I don't drink any more, but I still like Old Bay. hahahaaaa

          halibut

I couldn't believe my eyes when i went to the coast a few weeks ago. I had in my mind to go to the fish market and get some salmon and halibut. To my surprize the Halibut was $19.95 a lb and they didn't even have salmon! The lady said it was all because the cost of fuel! And their was only one lady working, and in the past their had been 3 working very hard! Instead of buying fish for dinner it was cheaper to go get fish and chips at a little place their. Of course it wasn't halibut it was cot but still.

Dang! That's too much! Might as well come with me to Homer Alaska and we'll go on a halibut fishing charter. I think we can get a few big ones and make it worth it!

                  beautiful

Yes southern Oregon is a beautiful place. I really love it. I was sorry that we were smoked in this summer with Ca. on fire. I love to cook my salmon stuffed with onion and tomatoes, wrapped in foil and baked in the coals, yum! When my sis brings me a salmon i put it right on the bbq and is so yummy and so fresh. And you are welcome anytime
