Here's a good one for rolling out sugar cookies!
1 1/2 cup butter, softened
3 cups sugar (can substitute 1/2 powdered sugar)
4 eggs
2 t. vanilla
5 cups flour
2 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Roll out to desired thickness. This is a versatile dough that can make THICK cookies - like up to 1/2 inch thick.
Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes....depending on thickness. Take out when the edges turn golden.
Baking on parchment paper makes it a snap to remove from cookie sheet to cool.
DECORATIONS: Sprinkled with colored sugars, or decoration sprinklies. Good to frost and decorate.
My mom made an egg "paint" for cookies - egg yolk mixed with food coloring - and painted it on before baking. Makes a hard coating.
