  • Pork N Beans to the rescue

Let's hear some of the many uses everyone's come up with for the humble Pork N Beans.

We were dying for some chili dogs yesterday. I had to turn a couple can's of pork n beans into a great chili sauce.

    2 cans Pork 'N Beans
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 16 ounce can diced tomatoes
1 small can diced jalapenos (only use half to start in case they're blazing hot)
    2 teaspoons Chili powder
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon cumin

Mix together and simmer, adding a pack of hot dogs (for chili dogs). Had the leftover for breakfast.

There's nothing I hate worse than beans that aren't done. I was at a catered meeting yesterday at a nicer hotel in the area. We had a taco bar for lunch, but they're beans weren't done all the way. Ugh!

    Anyway, here's a good recipe:

First off - Gramma's recipe has this title. I have -no- idea if this recipe came from someone in Indiana!

A cross between bean soup and bean stew - enjoy!

    So easy and so good.

The dry beans should be soaked before cooking. After the little sprout forms, enzymes release more vitamins in the beans and they don't produce as much gas. You can soak them up to 2-3 days, just change the water every 12 hours. Overnight is sufficent though....

Bush's Baked Beans have some new interesting flavors out for their Grilled Beans.

My favorite is B&M beans cuz they're small, don't fall apart, and have a nice BBQ flavor.

But we're always stuck with Van Camp's Pork 'n Beans or commodity vegetarian beans. They're not...
