I've been hesitant to come to pws.com lately. I noticed that when I view certain forums, my browser is trying to go to other sites automatically when I haven't done a thing to do so. I recently got a new computer, and the same thing with the browser thing happened on my old computer.

Last week, I found a trojan and luckily my virus software caught it and fixed it. Even so, I'm still hesitant to come back. Is there any way of finding out if it originated here?

I don't want to be out of the loop on certain pow wow topics, but until it's fixed, I don't want to subject myself to viruses again.

    Thank you!

I check constantly about viruses on the site. And other sites check us as well.

There are NO viruses or Trojans on PowWows.com!

Our site does load content from several different for ads, stats, etc. Several virus programs do notify you about those connections.

If you see something else, please send me as many details as possible.

Those are NOT attacks. AV system will alert you at times because we are setting cookies and they alert you because code is being run from remote sites.

Some ads do expand. That is NOT a virus or trojan though.

              go back

I understand that most viruses come through emails. If you open up an email for a look see, a virus might creep through without you knowing. I rarely open emails that I am not familiar with. However, if my computer is acting up, and I suspect a virus, I go to "system restore," and with it go to an earlier date when my computer was running well. System restore will ask me if I want a complete restoration, or just go back to a date, say two days before. I choose two days before, and the computer will go back to the way it was on that date. It wipes out what ever virus, if there was any, when it goes back. I guess if you do a complete restore, it will erase everything and make your computer appear when you first bought it. Anyway that works for me. In addition, I do a "disk cleanup" weekly, and every now an then, I do a "disk deframentation." Likely, you'll find these programs in "system tools" like I do.

I do all the above, or did on my old computer, but now that I have my new one, i'm extremely careful.

                Hmmm...dunno.

I did a google search and read up on that. It is a warning about remote code being run through Active X. All of these holes were plugged by Windows Updates.

This doesn't not indicate you are being attacked, just that you could be attacked.

Have you run all your Windows Updates?

I believe we may be encountering the same thing, Rez Hopper. It did that to me last week when reading certain Pow wow Talk threads. Today, when i tried to get into the 49 forum earlier, it froze on me altogether.

If it's the ads, well, might have to fix it somehow.
