Comet Chat bar

hey Paul, the Comet Chat at the bottom of the screen is the last thing to load on any screen I go to, it really bogs the loading process down, takes a very long time to access any screen since that toolbar has to load after everything else does. Is this chat even being used? Can I get rid of it as an individual user? thanks....

I'm having the same problem. Most of the time I'm on the computer I'm in a bit of a hurry and I'm not interested in "chatting"......is there a way to turn it off.

Yes, we made it the last thing purpose. You can use everything else on the page while it is loading. You don't have to wait for each page to fully load before you start doing anything.

Or is there another problem this is causing?

not so Paul... about part of the way into the load the page "freezes" can't scroll to read or choose another page, use the browser back button, etc until the chat bar finishes loading. It's really cut down on the number of pages I can get to during breaks and lunch at work.... and I'm on a T1 here, so it's not connection speed.

You can turn it off by changing the settings in your Tools/Internet Options/Security using the Custom Level and setting Active Scripting to Disable.... but then you can't use "Quick Links" to look for Today's Posts and you also can't use the "Quick Reply" option.

So, I'm just reading less and replying to even fewer posts.

yes, it's exactly as between describes it for me also, it literally freezes the screen until it's loaded, no matter what I'm doing or where in the pages I'm at....like I typed a couple of words in this reply and then it froze that until it loaded, a real nuisance for me.

It slows it down for me at work, but then when I think there are no more messages there I refresh the whole page and I get where are you ???? from some of the folks that I was writing to! It stops about ten minutes in. So now every few lines in, I refresh the whole thing! that prevents the ending of the chat!
