Taushina: I never said I believed that He was married. I don't need quotes from the Bible, I know what I believe in. I was simply stating that if that was found to be true, I would not feel any different towards Him. :)
Sum: You think Paul would give us $$ for our pts? Well sheeit, I've got lots, we're rich! :D We could take Char with us! ;) Read that other book and get back to me.. I'm too busy reading Sports articles. :p

I wouldn't say what Brown is claiming about Jesus to be factual, because, I really don't know if it is true or not. I was referring more to his artwork, The Vitruvian Man, Mona Lisa and what not. And as for Da Vinci being Christian way later in his life, I'm not sure at all on that one... I'll have to look it up because the book makes it sound as if Da Vinci didn't follow the church. Brown claims even though he did these frescos for the church, that he used "codes" in them to prove a point about the "truth". This truth he believed in (holy grail) rather than the one that was being told in the bible. He made it sound as if Da Vinci was one sly mutha. He talks about the Madonna of the Rocks painting on how the original painting was somewhat sacreligious and how Da Vinci had to repaint it over to appease the organization that commissioned it.
I bought a new book today, it is called, "Cracking the Da Vinci Code", it's supposed to tell me the real deal on what Brown presented in his book. So I'm gonna read that and see what they have to say. I'll get back witchas. *wink*

The thing that bothers me about all the buzz around the book is that everyone is focus on the possiblilty of Jesus being married and having a child. To me that wouldn't change anything. So what! Paul GIf that's what happened... honestly, it wouldn't make me feel any different about Him. Jinglin Chica
"Don't we have the right to bring a Christian wife along with us as the other disciples and the Lord's brothers and Peter do? Or is it only Barnabas and I who have to work to support ourselves?" 1 Corinthians 9:5
Here Paul was defending his right to have a wife. He mentioned that Cephas (Peter) and Barnabas had wives. If Jesus had been married, Paul would have definitely mentioned it, because it would have clinched Paul's case that he also had the right to be married.
Or flip over to Luke 7:36-50, here the women with the alabaster container anoints Jesus' feet. Notice in verse 39 the Pharisees reaction to her doing that to Jesus. Had she been Jesus' wife the Pharisee would not have reacted this way.
Might be helpful, who knows.

I'm trying to be open-minded but I find some of the things in that "factual" novel hard to swallow. I can rant and rave about about Dan Brown's conspiracy theories but really, it's only a novel. It's purely for entertainment. I know what I believe in and I stand firm in my faith. Who am I to tell Brown or anyone else what to believe in?
As for the "codes" in Leonardo's work.... I read that he wasn't even Christian until very late in his life....
Summer, if and when you go to the Louvre, please take me! :D:D:D:D

Well there are more responses since I took a lil' break from the board. :D
Pretty much what Paul has talked about in his post is what was making me think. The true facts? That the Priory of Sion really exits, the Opus Dei exists, all the facts about Leonardo Da Vinci and his paintings. So even though it is a "novel", there is truth in there, codes. hehe. Even just crazy stuff like, the PHI. It's exciting, the suspense of the story plot but then you can actually learn some extra things on the side too. Another thing I learned about was the story behind the penticle.
He also brings up how Disney believed in the Holy Grail story. And how his artists put hidden symbols in the cartoons. I believe this was a topic not too far back on "the favorite cartoon" thread. It was mentioned about on the Lion King that there was a shot in the cartoon where if you paused it, you would be able to see the word "Sex" in the background. Now Brown was just using that as an example but he pointed out how the background to The Little Mermaid was actually a 17th century painting that paid homage to Mary Magdelene. He also talked about Snow White how she was put outta commission :p after eating the apple, anybody think of the Adam and Eve story? I found that interesting because my kid is all into Disney princesses.
The interesting thing that I read was that Mary Magdelene was made to be a whore, when he claims that she wasn't. That it was just a smear campaign by the early church to cover up the fact that she was the Holy Grail.
I thought it was a very very interesting book. Certainly made me curious. I am unlike my mother, very open minded, I tried to talk with her about the book and she let me know right off the bat that the Bible was the only true word and that what Brown was saying was not true. But here I am, always looking for mischief, so I'll probably be reading everything else under the sun pertaining to this topic. And I was never interested in visiting Europe, but now I would actually like to go visit the Louvre one time in my life.

During a night of insomnia, I watch a special on Mary Magdoline on The Learning Channel. Much of what is said in the Da Vinci Code is true.
Historians have found a Gospel of Mary and a Gospel of Phillip that both confirm many of the ideas put forward in the book.

I think the issue we should be discussing is that Jesus instructed Mary to build the Church, not Peter. He left a woman in charge! That would change alot of modern religion's views on women!!

What's your take on this book? Agree or disagree?
I've heard people say its just a novel so don't use it as a historical reference. Just read it for what it is, a novel.Last edited by Taushina; 05-27-2004, 06:49 PM.

Back one more time. I was at this site for awhile but got bored with it. Try it again. Before we go to Iraq. At the moment, we are training up and getting ready. The global war on terrorism is going to be a long fight and I'm in it for the long haul.
