Stomp Dance!

The best thing is the stomp dances, you know the good food singing with family and watching in awe as our young children learn about their heritage. ohh tear!
Well not only do we have great pow-wow and stomp dances we have some of the best native cooks!

Did any of yall go to Comanche Homecoming this year? It was a very good dance. Saturday night there were alot of dancers in the grand entry. The weather wasnt bad either. Didnt "9"--too tired of cooking and singing.

I heard there was a special "aye-dah" fancy war dance contest in the arena. Man, that would have to go on "the craziest thing I saw at a powwow" thread. Did anyone see that?

I went! It was a very good dance. I thought the drum was excellent. Its easy to dance with a drum that is that good. I agree with you on the weather. It was only about 94 degrees out and with a little breeze, it was nice. Seems like its usually in the triple digits.
I must have missed the special fancy war dance. Or maybe didn't realize it was going on, I was sitting with my family during the evening catching up.
For me, Kiowa Homecoming and Comanche Homecoming are the highlights of my year. Now that they have passed, its time to start preparing for 2006. Everything else is just gravy.

What will happen during Indian Hills?

1. The Kon-gee-yones will put up their $5 parking signs
2. The chiggers will bum rush everybody's ankles
3. The gourd dancers will lay down over a million dollars at each other's feet
4. There will be an unofficial "fanning contest" Saturday afternnoon.
5. There will be a lot of people "Bustin' Face" at dinner time
6. All the dancers will dance real keen down hill and pass out going back up
7. The 49 contestants will look like like sumo wrestlers getting ready to battle
8. The "O"s will fill up and overflow
9. Somebody will show up monday morning to work with a "hickey neckless" and two black eyes

and....


10. alot of people won't show up to work (or home) at all!!!

Hey beading 4 ndnz what's going on up north? I bet it is very cool up there. We are now in a 'cold front' where the weather is under 90 degrees. But the heat will be back on real soon. Did you know that the Kiowa tribe was once located in Montana back in the 1700's but got booted down south--durty south--until we ended up in Oklahoma.

I think the ribbon work you are talking about is so beautiful. My tribe doesnt do ribbon work but mostly beadwork. I hope you get a chance to come down south. I think you will like it. Most Okies are into the Northern style of dress and dance.

The aye-dah contest happened in the early morning hours. As for me I was tucked up in my bed ZZZZZZZ! Some friends of mine that camped told me about the craziness.

Indian Hills and Skiatook are this weekend!

Indian Fair starts with the parade on Monday.

Next weekend is the powwow in Seminole....

Last weekend was the state woman's softball tournaments.

Catfishing is at it's best this time of year. Does anybody "noodle?"
