observed a great number of muscles and periwinkles along shore; the muscle is of the kind commonly called pearl-muscle, & by means of its long tongue make considerable progress along the bottom & upon the beaches of the river when under water: our people had a quantity of them dressed and found them to be agreeable food: to me they were tough & unpalatable!
