      • There was a Casa Bonita in Tulsa when I was growing up. It was one of I think only 2 Mexican restaurants there at the time. It was all done up like a Mexican village, so you could eat in the Smuggler's Cave, or the Governor's Palace, by the waterfall, etc..

          • Yes!! That sums up the atmosphere of the Casa Bonita in Denver, as well.

When I first went there in Jr high, we used to always order milk. The servers would pour the milk from about 3 feet above the glass. LOL

So RDNKJ, are blintzes supposed to served cold???

Mmmmm.... I want some crepes RIGHT NOW!!

            • Hi folks:

Hubby is on his way home - I'll be leaving for the city in about 2 hours to pick him up.

I'm really sooky right now as my kid's ship left this morning and the news from the part of the world she's headed for has kind got me worried. Her boyfriend is leaving on Monday to augment the ship that is already there... let the mail biting begins.

I need a stiff drink of something (but not before I do the driving)... breathe breathe...
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. — Robert A. Heinlein

Yeah - I've been to Casa Bonita in Tulsa back in the day, I think it was on Sheridan. I liked going to Tulsa, we used to go shopping, then go Bells Amusement Park and then eat at Casa Bonita - good times lol. I also eat at the Denver location as well. Too bad they don't have one in Albuquerque, gonna hafta find a mexican restaurant during GON

Casa Bonita was where I was first introduced to sopapillas! It was so much fun to raise the little flag to have more sopapillas brought to you!

Generally no, blintzes should be served warm. There are some exceptions though. I've eaten cold cheese blintzes. But, warm is the way to go.

Yeah, you're right. It was like at 21st & Sheridan, I think. I can almost see the little shopping center it was in. The outside was like a Spanish Mission? And I think it was pink?

Yeah, it was always a treat when we got to go Bell's. Not only did we get to go to an amusement park, but we also got to see the Driller!

                        • Umm...I hope you got your order and weren't waiting too long!

So what you gotta do is raise the little flag at your table and we'll bring you more beef tacos.

I'm always torn at Casa Bonita...whether to get the beef combo, the chicken combo or the fajitas. If I'm not that hungry, I get the fajitas. If I'm in the mood to crunch something, I get the beef plate and keep the beef tacos coming! And if I need comfort food, I cannot get enough of the chicken enchiladas.

I'm on a mission too! To find good food in Albuquerque. The Pueblo Indian Center has some good food. Sandia casino has a good buffet. I heard there's a good Mexican drive thru with several locations around town, but I forget the name.

If anybody's driving thru Las Vegas, NM, I highly recommend the Mexican Kitchen de los Aragons, aka Johnny's kitchen. Yummy green chili!!!

While at the powwow, I'm gonna be on my usual quest to find the GOOD frybread. I'll just smell and squeeze it ... I don't dare taste it on my diet!
                          ...it is what it is...

Goodluck on your mission lol, as far as Mexican food, I've eaten at Pancho's and Garduno's in Albuquerque - nothing special, its okay tho. But for breakfast when I am extremely hungry I eat at weck's in ABQ.

I agree that the Pueblo Indian Center has some good food - I haven't eaten at Sandia Casino, But the Santa Ana Star Casino had an awesome buffet when I ate there last.

Dang, it's time to thaw out some roasted green chilies and start cooking! Green chili stew, green chili grilled cheese, green chili cheeseburger, green chili sauce on eggs, cream of green chili soup, chili rellenos...I'm gonna be busy!

And I gotta try my hand at making a chipotle bacon brownie.

Those are easy to make, just eat the chipotles and bacon, then let them "bake" in your belly, you'll have a brownies within a day...

                                  Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has info on recipes for beef soup and frybread to feed 200-300 people at an outdoor powwow? My step-father passed and we would like to honor him with a feed but have never done this before. I would appreciate suggestions on recipes, ingredients, cooking times, equipment...

If you were forces to live on a small Iceland, big enough to do a powwow dance, alone, what would you bring with you?
There are off course fresh water and enough fruits to survive on your Iceland.
And it's hot enough to not fresh at night.
BUT no electricity, so sorry, you would...
