if i may ask, whats the deal with putting parkas in the freezer during summer?
Caribou hair as you know, is hollow and as awesome as it is for insulation it can be very fragile to changing elements. In the summer, heat and humidity can increase the evaporation time of oils necessary to keep the hides supple. Cold temps in the freezer can keep the oil from drying out and causing the fragile hair to break and the skin to crack.

Colder temps also protect the hides from insect and higher UV damage that would be prevailent during the hot summer months.

I have seen some caribou hides that have had some mite infestation that really gets going during the summer heat. In the winter/colder temps the mites are slowed down in damaging the hides.

I have so many hides and fur clothing articles that I really can't afford to put them all in cold storage so I use my freezer.

        • Snakes, guns, coffee, bologna, scabies, Christmas-type cookies...did I miss anything.

          What's ATF, TB?

I'll have some cookies and milk followed by coffee. Thanks!

Oh, right! I work here don't I? I'll just help myself and give myself a big tip for my great service.

I guess it's a good thing I never caught those garter snakes I used to chase when I was little. They slithered a whole lot faster than I could run, and I was a fast little runner. I don't need scabies.

          Hey all!!!

suebeeds...isnt that the shopping you put of on Saturday? LOL

Oh yeah..and a sausage biscuit, a piece of yellow cake with chocolate frosting and a glass of milk to go along with my coffee!
Yes, JD. That was the shopping that got put off Sat. because of the rain. Drove home Mon. in a downpour and decided to sleep a couple of hours to see if it would let up and it did. It was down to a cold windy drizzle when I left to hit the stores. We did find a cool Big Wheels, though. It has turn signals and all kinds of neat flashing lights and sounds. I am so happy it's an outdoor toy. LOL! After my grandson got a Chicken Dance Elmo last year, toys have to pass a gramma sound test. If I don't want to throw them in the yard after 5 minutes, it passes. That Elmo thing nearly drove all of us crazy after about 20 minutes. Elmo no longer dances, but he was still inviting everybody to "c'mon, lets do the Chicken Dance with Elmo", so gramma took his batteries out so he could rest and maybe get better. :) Elmo came through the surgery successfully.

You know, I've never had red velvet cake but that sounds yummy. My mom's idea of baking a cake was to add yeast to the bannock mix and putting a drop of yellow food dye in it to make it look like those Duncan Heinz ones. For icing, she'd whip up a batch of Indian ice cream andfrost the cake with that.

I made a batch of garlic cream soup for dinner. Help yourselves.

If you were forces to live on a small Iceland, big enough to do a powwow dance, alone, what would you bring with you?
There are off course fresh water and enough fruits to survive on your Iceland.
And it's hot enough to not fresh at night.
BUT no electricity, so sorry, you would...
