  • I'm happy to say that Sparky is back to his normal (for him) happy, bouncy self. We have a routine when I get home from work. After I ditch the shoes and jacket, I let him out of the bedroom and he gets in my lap for some pats and fussing over. When he came bouncing out of the bedroom this morning and got in my lap, I was so happy to see him feeling like his old self, I started crying. I was so scared for him last night. My husband told me that whatever it was with him, lasted about another 20 minutes after I left for work, then he was fine. He said he picked him up, without being snarled at, and put him in bed. About 2 this morning, he said Sparky woke him up doing his "I gotta go out NOW" dance, and he was fine. I called the last 2 vets in the county that we haven't seen yet. (I"m as picky about vets as I was pediatricians.) One is out of town for 10 days and the second choice was not a big help when I called them. Said they would actually have to see the incident when it was occurring. I asked about a blood test to look for anything toxic and they said they could do that. Then they told me that their new patient fee was $325 and the blood test would run another $150. I said thank you and hung up. I'll wait for the first choice to return and see if she will work with us on the fees. She used to work with our vet that moved, so she knows us.
JD, funny you mention dogs getting cramps. Sometimes Sparky sleeps all knotted up like a pretzel and a couple of days ago, we had been talking about that and wondering if it was good for his spine and muscles to sleep that way.

              • Yay, for Sparky! Glad to hear he's feeling better.

I was quite shocked to read that vets down your way charge for being a new patient! Wow! At the very most when we move to a new area and take the beasties in for an introduction to the new vet, it's maybe... 30 bucks for the visit. I don't think we've ever paid a new patient fee in any of the provinces we've lived in. The things you learn.. and they say the internet is a waste of time...lol

New patient fee? Is that common in your area? Maybe I've just been lucky with the vets I've used - but I've never heard of such a thing!!!

Just wondering if anyone has info on recipes for beef soup and frybread to feed 200-300 people at an outdoor powwow? My step-father passed and we would like to honor him with a feed but have never done this before. I would appreciate suggestions on recipes, ingredients, cooking times, equipment...

If you were forces to live on a small Iceland, big enough to do a powwow dance, alone, what would you bring with you?
There are off course fresh water and enough fruits to survive on your Iceland.
And it's hot enough to not fresh at night.
