                      • Morning folks:

So we took the maiden voyage in the "rolling tipi" over the weekend and had a not so bad time.

Friday was a melt down day for me... so the weekend didn't start off in the greatest of moods. Once I got over the melt down and once we got on the road, the trailer was easy to pull and we had no issues hitting the steep grades of the Battle River valley.

We had called ahead to the campground and knew that the water supply had not been turned on yet so we had to travel with a full tank (not advisable if you can avoid it) - when we opened up the trailer once we got to the park, we noticed that the little amount of water in the toilet had slopped out and needed mopping up... note to self take mop next time... lol

Now one of the reasons I had started the melt down was my hubby didn't follow through with his promise that if we got the trailer, he would ask the drivers at work to teach him to back it up etc. He didn't and I have to admit, taking off with a 2 and half ton rolling tipi dragging behind you knowing that the driver has only backed it up once (when we brought it home) was not a good head space to be in...lol He also had promised that he would read all the manuals and do a dry run with the trailer's systems before we left. He didn't do that either.... when he couldn't find one of the cotter pins for the hitch because he never put it away in the bag to keep it all together... that's when I lost it...

My husband, god love him, has a habit of doing things at the last minute and that drives my "need for order" side of me nuts. This however, was one of those things that really needed to be given more than a cursory thought and left to the last minute. He has never driven a trailer before and the last time I was in a vehicle towing a trailer was when I was about 13 years old... lol

Anyway, we get to the campsite and it is a gorgeous place. It's clean, the roads into it are great and we start to set up. I made a big pot of chili (it's still chilly here... about 7 c) to have for dinner and we have started up the fire... the moon was rising and I had my cam ready to shoot it (it was supposed to be a big fat full moon)... we made smores and was settled in for a nice night... then it started to rain.

Now remember when I said hubby was supposed to have gone over the systems in the trailer? One of them was the furnace. The rain had dropped the temps down to about 2c (about 36F) and the trailer was chilly. So there was my hubby with the manual in his hand trying to figure out how to get the furnace going. I had already been teetering on the edge of a complete melt down over his last minute bravado and this wasn't helping...lol

He ended up having to call the RV dealer ship to get them to walk him through the start up... I got in the truck and drove into town and went for a coffee...lol

So Sat was a rain all day type of day but the trailer was warm (he finally got the furnace to work). We watched a movie and played cards. It was good to try the trailer out in bad weather. The movie we watched was RV with Robin Williams... and there it was.. my life on the screen.... even down to the Honey, honey, honey part

Sunday was a nice clear day and we went for a few hikes before we started to pack up to head home.

I love my husband but when he gets it in his head that he doesn't need help, he can be really frustrating. So here I am trying to guide him in to back up to the trailer and he's in one of those "I can do this by myself" moods. When he got out of the truck to see how close he was,, and the truck started to roll down towards the RV, that's when I suggested maybe I should do the backing and he can do the guiding...lol...I didn't want my own scene from the movie RV to play out in real life...lol

Anyway, we finally got it all hooked up and went off to dump the grey water... I don't understand dumping stations that insist that the water hoses run up hill...it was an interesting moment...lol We decided to head home and dump the black water at the station in town - you really need to have running water for that...lol oh,, and having the hoses run downhill really helps as well...lol

We got back home and went to the station, took care of that and headed back to park the RV...remember I mentioned that hubby didn't have someone to teach him how to do it? That was the best 3 hours entertainment ever! Finally our neighbour came out and helped him... three hours to park it in the driveway...LOL I swear... next house we buy is going to have either a pull through for the RV or a circular driveway...lol

He's going to his back up lesson tonight and tomorrow...lol You can add, never try to teach your husband to back up a trailer to the list of things not to do... like finger on a trigger, teach your kid to drive, help them with their math homework, let a Lt try and read a map...etc.

Anyway, S'mores all round for everyone!!!

                        • Ooh, I'll have a smore as I'm ROFL. That's so funny that you watched RV while having your trial run on your rolling tipi!!

But I shouldn't laugh...I bought a used camper trailer last year and still don't know how to run anything.

                          • Yeah it was sort of fun. I really love the trailer.. the floor design is perfect for us. I just need to do a few tweaks on equipment -like take a mop...lol I thought a broom and little hand held vacuum would do the trick...

Also learned that if you have to travel with a full tank of water... best to cover the toilet with some plastic film (saran wrap type of stuff) to keep the water from sloshing all over the place. Learned that the trailer will get a lot of condensation when the temps are cold so we bought some dri-powder to keep in the trailer to keep it dry - who have thunk that good old dry and brittle Alberta air would need that eh...lol

I kept banging my head in the bear cave so that now has a bit of styrofoam glued on the piece that likes to connect with my head...lol

We're heading out again this weekend to another provincial park in the south end of the province... hopefully we'll see some speed goats (antelopes) and rattle snakes. I know the area we're heading into also has wolf spiders and cacti... the following week we'll head north to past the treeline... might see some spring bears and moose...

                                  Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has info on recipes for beef soup and frybread to feed 200-300 people at an outdoor powwow? My step-father passed and we would like to honor him with a feed but have never done this before. I would appreciate suggestions on recipes, ingredients, cooking times, equipment...

If you were forces to live on a small Iceland, big enough to do a powwow dance, alone, what would you bring with you?
There are off course fresh water and enough fruits to survive on your Iceland.
And it's hot enough to not fresh at night.
BUT no electricity, so sorry, you would...
