Well, on our plate are rolling blackouts. This first time since 1935 cold, spread over the entire state, has demand expected to exceed the generating capacity of the grid. Even the our record heat wave of a couple years back didn't do that. Here's to hoping the ties to the Mexican power grid hold and that Mexico wants to sell us electricity.

Pray for us down here. I realize that this is just another day at the beach for you folks up north. This does not happen to us. I'll trade you a week of temps above 100F for a power plant.

It's 1 degree F here this morning and when I got up we had an inch of new snow ! We've already been out and fed the horses and dealt with the dogs , 1 of which loves the snow and just wanted to run and romp in it and the other who would rather it never snowed in the first place. It's still snowing , quite hard actually and looking out I'd guess about 4 inches so far ! With that it is 1 degree with a wind chill of -15 and an expected high today of 3 ! Tonight they expect the air temperature to be -4 and tomorrow's high of 1 , then tomorrow night -11. We'll just see how it goes !

In case of power outage we have a generator big enough to run the furnace , refrigerators , freezers and a light or 2. We also have 3 propane heaters that I use during deer season if we need them.

WD where do you live? It is cold here in South Central KY, but, after hearing your report, I feel a lot warmer. I am sitting here after my second vaccine shot and, now can leave since it has been 10 minutes. Now, in two weeks, I should have 95% immunity.

We're in S.E.Kansas. It quit snowing for now. Looks like somewhere between 4-6 inches. Hard to tell with it drifting. Out by the road it's about 18 inches but almost none on the road itself !Our front porch has about an inch and the back has 5-6 ! The house next door has about a foot on it's porch , just because the wind hits it different than ours ! It's up to 3 with a -13 windchill !

WD, we have golfstream weather. Without out, we would freeze like Hudson Bay. Says, we would have what you have. Yeah than I would invest in a genrator large enough to support the needed electicity.

The experts say this type of "cod snack" hasn't happened in 40 years ! So today I was trying to remember that time in my life ! LOL I was living in Ft.Scott and was renting a house with a furnace that just couldn't keep up ! The house was cold and I remember blocking off rooms to keep the heat in the kitchen and livingroom , and leaving the water dripping so it wouldn't freeze. I remember using my 4x4 truck to chauffeur employees to their jobs at walmart because the roads were slick and people couldn't get to work. That was a crazy winter !

Yeah I remember as a teenager before Minnesota had the cold weather law. The gas company would shut the gas off in the winter when you was behind on payments. Cold water showers in December wasn't no fun getting ready for school. I remember smiling and reassuring mom that doing the best you can when it came down to measuring what was really important. Mom was wonder woman straight up! God I love being Indigenous!

I remember the winter of 1971, 1972, 1981 to 1982 and 1987 with the winter of 1981 to 1982 with very much snow.

A lot of cars and their batteires wnet down in that winter. Even the Autobahn wasn't always and everywhere snwo free.

I remember driving in Januray from Düsseldorf to Feldafing about 850 km in snow drift.

IOt was the year when in February I froze my toes a little bit in the field.

In the 40s here the last couple of days, but wet-very wet. I didn't know whether or not I should break out a boat or the scuba gear to get to work. LOL! It started raining Sat. morning and didn't stop until early Sunday evening. It's supposed to rain off and on for the next several days, too. Rainy season beats fire season any day, though. Princess Diva isn't happy with the rain. She doesn't like whatever litter hubby got last time, so now, she has to go out to use the bathroom. I swear, she gets more like a dog everyday. At least she's the only cat we've got. The people up the road are feeding about 50 feral cats-and no, I'm not exaggerating the number. The brother who lived on the property started feeding them, and when he died last summer, they started doing it. If the cats haven't been fed when I go by there on my way home in the mornings, they are all over their porch and yard. It's like something out of a horror movie. It ought to be interesting this summer when the flea population kicks in.

OLC, I've seen some of the freezing weather you guys have been having-and that 100 car accident on the interstate. That's stuff my nightmares are made of. Our main source of heat is a propane heater in the dining room, so even if the power goes out, we're good if it's cold. Be safe everybody!

Well, they can’t get enough gas for the generators. As we’re headed into the coldest part of the night, we’re looking at rolling blackouts. Please oh ye nice grid operators at ERCOT, blackout the coast and far south Texas. The temps are survivable down there.
