I've missed the heck outta everybody! All muh cyber Aunty's and muh cyber cuzzins, hey to da cyber snags! *Aye!*

I'm still in Lawrence. Aint doing the Haskell deal no more, just saving up for some nursing classes and still working. Muh job is great, I'm doing alright for myself and my whole family is healthy and happy. This year is promising and I'm making alot of changes come this time.

I've been sober since May. and its FRICKEN HARD! I still go out and club and have fun, but you know, it gets a little old when everyone tells me "You HAVE to take a shot! You HAVE to drink this or that" and they laugh it off or put it in my face. A couple of times I gotta get muh serious face on, and straight up say "No thank you", meanwhile looking like I'm bout to tare somethin up. I dont like gettin quick with people, but you know, theres always someone tryin to test my patience.

But you know, I see alot of my generation doing good for themselves, making their own way, helping out back home or taking on jobs and careers that will benefit THE PEOPLE rather than just grabbing up that per cap and blowing it all. And it makes me feel good to see the young ones taking back control of their lives and getting back to the way things should be. I see that I have a chance to make things right with this sobriety, and its really really really hard ya'll, but dammit, I'm doin it. I'm really doing it and I cant believe it.

Usually we call on our elders for some wisdom and advice in our times of need, but this time (with no disrespect), I'm calling on my own generation, I'm calling on the ones who came after me, for some guidence. Teach ME something, let me know your struggles, whats going on with ya'll?

RP49, that is awesome that you haven't drank in that long. You should be proud of yourself - that is such an accomplishment that not many people (especially Natives!) can achieve.

Kiw, you should be proud of yourself too! I know many people that have kicked (and many that tried) that habit and it is soo rough.

Its definately hard and YES you have to get hard with some people that dont take ya seriously but this is the time you will see your TRUE friends.
I have been Sober about 10 years and ya know it still gets hard fer me sometimes but i just remind myself of the BS that went with the booze and say Umm NO thx!
Ya Sound like youre being real positive and better yet giving yourself the credit you deserve as well as those that care for you, keep going. Stay strong and Know that there is Life out there and So many great opprotunities for you.

Oooh Girl! Aint it the truth! Alot of my friends have been crazy supportive, some are even slowing down they're own drinking just cuz we realize how old it gets (Plus we done done it all in our teenage years!) Aye! But I hear ya, it still wouldnt be any easier if I were to pick up the bottle again. I'm not a mean drunk or an annoying drunk, I just dont like the things that COULD happen in a drinking situation, rather face these tough times with a clear mind and clean strength. Plus I've gotten invites to sundance before, but I've always told myself, I'll go when I know I been sober for atleast a whole year, and I'll go when I'm really ready to give up the drinking for good. And I'm ready for that.

Plus I see how much our generation is slipping away to drinking. It really changes who you are. And no its not easy, but the things that make you tough never are.

TEN YEARS! Yeeehaw! One day I'll be able to say that! =D Good job! I mean it, that really lifts me up to hear that!

It is hard. I rarely "go out" like once every 3-4 months because I don't feel the need to do it all the time or I don't really feel the need at all to tell the truth. The few times I did with my friends it seems like that's all they want me to do or that's how they want to spend their time with me now. I'd rather just chill out at home and invite them over to visit sans alcohol. I am thankful to have one friend (my best friend) who is sober and has never drank before in her life so we can enjoy ourselves just chillin and talking or going bowling with our significant others. She's like a sister to me cuz my own sisters don't drink either and we can just sit around and talk for hours. I personally don't dig the club scene so much shallow people it's like a dang meat market! I'd go out and sing karaoke at the bars any day and it doesn't mean I have to get trashed every weekend or even have to drink when I'm there. I just go to have fun and sing because I love to sing! You're lucky to have such supportive friends!

I remember going out a few years ago after I had been sober thinking oh yeah i can handle it... I didnt drink but man Did i have to put up with some weird people and put up with the looks from OLD friends talk bout if looks could kill.. LOL... I didnt have fun at all and totally realized that my life had moved on and i didnt have to go to the clubs to have fun that i could find it somewhere else. Now i kik hubbys *** in bowling and pool.. LOL.. and have home parties and get together with freinds and the best thing about those is I remember every bit of the night.. LOL... no hangOvers!! ohhh i hated the hangovers!!
I hear ya ruby when ya say meat market... LOL... Like i was being hit on by guys right in front of my hubby some were his own cousins...LOL... he was like hey man what ya think youre doing? LOL..needless to say cousins were very appologetic the next time we saw them and hubby was like just quit your drinking and you wont get all confused as to who is whos wife.. LMAO..
People say life is boring without booze i say its more fun and youll always ahve them GOOD memories of the night.

As for going to Sundance... Girl you wont regret it!!! It is a beautiful experience and one that i have treasured forever. I go now almost every year and I always feel so uplifted like i have strength from my ancestors guiding me. Its awseome and I cant wait till you go and really enjoy and be a support to those that you are attending for.
