    I havent had time to post today due to being awake almost 40hrs and working 14 lol but i wanted to rant a little about something ironic that happened at work today.

    i used to have a little braid in my hair that i just left in my hair all the time and i didnt cut it when id cut the rest of my hair. at work everyone would always think there was something in my hair. eventually i got so fed up i took it out and cut it cuz at work it was basically an everyday thing (i work for a mobile ultrasound screening company so the elderly people coming in to get screened would always mess with it)

    well today when i went to work i decided i would wear this barrett in my hair. it has fringe from it and a little mini dream catcher on it..really nice. a few weekends ago at the powwow i went to at Ohio State...i bought a really nice buckskin purse. it also has fringe on it.

    today during work, one of my coworkers, Zandra (who is an african american woman who has 2 children from a bi-racial man) starts "oh you're being pocahontas you got your pocahontas purse and your pocahontas barrett" and i said "pocahontas is such a clique" and she went on so i said "If you're gonna keep calling me pocahontas im going to call you Rosa Parks" and she said "thats different because im actually black" and i said "well im actually native american" and she says "oh please you are not dont give me none of that 1/16th crap" and then i break it down for her showing im almost as much Cherokee as i am german, dutch, ect ect ect (im a mut lol but the cherokee heritage seems to be stronger to me and more important to me than the others), that it would be enough for admittance into the eastern band of cherokee if my great great grandmother wouldnt've married into a white family and had ended up on the baker rolls ect ect and she said "oh no you didnt i have to go have a cigarette on this one"

    i just find this extremely ironic to get this kind of reaction from a minority who has children that are bi-racial. you'd think she would know that you cant just go acting like that about people.

    well thats my rant for tonight lol
    "So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

    When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and nothing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

    Applaude fer YOU

    GOOD fer you girl!! for sticking up fer your Native Heritage..
    I feel exactly the same way.. I am Mixed Blood too, half Blackfoot and half German... and like you I have ALWAYS been drawn and more interested in my Native ancestory than My other side, therefor i practice and raise my children to know more about thier Native ancestory than thier white ancestory. I think most mixed Natives are that way, our culture and heritage is very strong and has its way of pulling us back to where we belong.

    What a stereotype this woman has... and wow coming from a black person who also faces racism and discriminatory actions im sure... calling her Rosa Parks would be too good of a name fer her.. maybe Aunt Jemima would have made more of a point to her. Im sorry that was kinda mean but im tryin to make a point.
    Keep wearing your beaded Barrettes and beaded Purses... keep being proud of who you are and theres No need to prove to ANYONE concerning your blood authenticity. As long as YOU know what you are thats all that matters because the fact is that most people that are NOT Native have NO idea what runs thru thier veins at least you were able to break it down fer her and Im sure she did have to go have a ciggarette on that 1 cause you probably blew her away with your knowledge of your own heritage where as she probably cant do the same if you were to ask her... maybe she could who knows... My point being that you did what was right and stuk up for yourself. Good fer you!! Just My 2 cents maybe 10 cents... LOL...

    ~~~ Never look down on anybody unless you're helping them up. ~~~
          Bux,
          You go girl! I can just see you giving someone the "wassup'!"
          Because the black people have led the way in the civil rights movement, many truly believe minority means "black-only." It is up to people like us to make a presence and educate.
              Thanks for the support everyone!
              AngelFeather you hit it dead.. on our heritage definitely has a way of keepin us where we belong. i woulda thought up of something meaner to call her if i woulda had the time but rosa parks was the best i could think of right off lol and i definitely plan to keep wearin my native stuff and not puttin up with her crap
              **First Lady** thanks...i always feel kinda weird about it cuz im so "white" looking..but then again ive seen many people with even more blood than me be just as pale..so i guess people just need to stop going by skin color to determine what a person is.
              buckskin pantyhose what is it with people and pocahontas! and thats all i know to do too when its another "minority" sayin that crap. i guess its not safe to assume that just cuz someones a mniority that they wont be racist
              WhoMe you're absolutely right. stupidity doesnt see color either. its messed up though to think minority means black only cuz theres still oriental, latino, ect ect ect. dumb people. its also messed up to be minorities in our own homeland. i mean african americans arent even a minority in africa!
              well yesterday at work went better..her only dumb statement was when the boss was talkin bout sendin his kids money and shes like you have 3 daughters right here! of all shades and sizes a white girl, a black girl, and a navajo..you did say navajo right? and i said "umm no cherokee". she wasnt trying to be mean that time...she was just being ignorant.
              i did get a little picked on from the white girl but i ignore her cuz shes even stupid about Christianity. we were in a church and she said "i wonder who the pictures of those 12 men on the wall are" so it was no shock to me she said "powwow? isnt that where native men get naked and smoke pot?" yes...she seems to be the definition of idiot. the sad thing about her is she starts gettin a tan and starts "im part cherokee! thats how i get so dark" i want to say......do not associate my heritage with yours! lol
                  by Tiyospaye Yazzie
                  I just broke up yesterday with my girlfriend of 2.5 years. A conversation while I was making her fancy shawl leggings was the ignitor; I finished the skirt & vest/yoke but not the shawl. Man, I shouldn't have done it. I feel very lonely and irresponsible. Did I do the right thing? I love her to...
